Health Infrastructure is the State Government agency responsible for delivering the Sydney Ambulance Metropolitan Infrastructure Strategy - $184 million program of works which will enable our paramedics to get to where they need to go more quickly.

We help meet NSW health’s needs by managing the planning, design and delivery of health infrastructure capital works. We do so by uniting the skills and resources of the construction and health industries to deliver world-class infrastructure and healthcare services.
Health Infrastructure manages Australia’s largest portfolio of health capital works projects, with works worth around $3 billion underway at any one time.
Our work can be broken down into four main elements:
Advisory and Strategic Planning. We advise on project and capital allocation planning, business case development, and whole-of-government strategic planning.
Project Development. We undertake development of options and construct business cases, provide technical advice and facilitate consultation with a wide range of stakeholders.
Contract Management and Procurement Services. We develop the project management plan, supervise the tender and contract process, evaluate tenders and monitor contractor performance.
Delivery. We manage construction, acceptance testing, change management and facility commissioning.
NSW Ambulance is committed to providing high quality out of hospital emergency medical care and clinical services to more than 7.6 million people in NSW, located across NSW, an area of 801,600 square kilometres.
We employ more than 4,000 people, with 90 per cent being operational staff involved in the frontline delivery of emergency medical services. This includes paramedics and specialised responders such as intensive care and extended care paramedics, special operations, counter disaster, aeromedical and medical retrieval staff.
The remaining 10 per cent of our workforce are corporate and support staff who assist in the delivery of frontline services through ancillary roles, from maintaining mechanical workshops to performing finance and payroll, human resources, training, certification and administration functions.
Demand for NSW Ambulance services is growing. The average number of emergency responses by NSW Ambulance increased by 2.5 per cent in 2014/15. The total number of emergency responses was 950,674 in 2014/15 compared with 927,369 in 2013/14. Factors contributing to increased activity include population growth, an ageing population and the associated increase in rates of illness.
